Abstract

Abstract Emitter chemical ionization mass spectra of several aminoglycoside antibiotics (pseudotrisaccharides) have been determined by using isobutane and ammonia as reagent gases. All mass spectra show the protonated molecule and nine characteristic fragment ions due to the cleavages of glycosidic linkages. These fragment ion peaks are shown to be useful for the structural characterization of compounds of this class. Fragmentation reactions have been confirmed by the shift technique with ammonia‐ d 3 as the reagent gas.
