Abstract n ‐Aliphatic aldehydes and n ‐methyl ketones up to and including C 18 are separated by partition chromatography of the 2,4‐dinitrophenylhydrazones on silica‐gel with light petroleum as mobile and nitromethane as immobile phase. Identification is possible by means of the retention volumes.
