[SbCl([15]Crown‐5)](SbCl₆)₂ and [BiCl([18]Crown‐6)(CH₃CN)₂](SbCl₆)₂: Salts with Antimony(<scp>III</scp>) and Bismuth(<scp>III</scp>) Dications

Abstract

“Crown ether complexes with unusual coordination geometries” is an apt description of the dications of the title compounds. The SbIII compound has a pentagonal-planar environment for the Sb atom, formed by the five O atoms of the crown and an axially oriented chlorine ligand. In contrast, the central atom of the BiIII dication (shown right) is surrounded by the O atoms of the crown in a distorted prismatic fashion, and the Cl atom and the N atoms of the CH3CN units each occupy a prism face.
