Abstract

This is the third article in a 4-part continuing education series on point-of-care testing. After reading this article, the reader will be able to define POCT, identify its advantages and disadvantages, explain its benefits in critical care settings, understand key features in current point-of-care instruments, identify when a pointof-care test may be inaccurate, and recognize important quality management features of point-of-care instruments.
