Abstract

Although perhaps not well known, the Old Order Amish are widely known for their adherence to old-fashioned social and technologic practices. Their closely prescribed manner of dress and use of the horse and buggy are familiar features. More profound sociologic characteristics, as well as the history of the group, are not so familiar. Revelant aspects will, therefore, be reviewed briefly (Bender, Smith, 1955; Hostetler, 1963).
