Nineteen new heat-flow measurements in the Caribbean Sea and the western Atlantic and one in the Gulf of Mexico were made during 1962 and 1963 on Lamont expeditions. Five measurements were taken on Vema cruise 1.8, six on Vema cruise 19, and nine on Conrad cruise 7, and the results are given in Table 1. All gradients were measured with the Ewing thermograd. This instrument uses short time constant thermistor probes mounted on outriggers on a piston corer; it is fully described by Gerard et al. [1962] and Langseth et al. [1964].
