Abstract This highlight review describes the recent progress in alcohol or masked alcohol-directed C–H functionalization, which enables rapid access to a large array of complex structures. Given the ubiquity of the hydroxy group in organic chemistry, these types of transformations may have significant impacts on synthetic strategy design.
