Abstract

Despite the presence of 55 nonequivalent atoms the structure of the layered nickel succinate [Ni7(C4H4O4)4(OH)6(H2O)3]⋅7 H2O was solved by ab initio methods from powder-diffraction data. The structure contains unprecedented Ni6 units (blue in the picture) linked by further Ni-centered octahedra (green) and succinate ions (yellow).
