Abstract

Mesonephric type adenocarcinoma is a very rare tumour in the bladder and bears a resemblance to nephrogenic adenoma. We report (to the best of our knowledge), the first case where the tumour was partly composed of mesonephric and partly of poorly differentiated transitional cell carcinoma. Staining for α 1 ‐antitrypsin and carcino‐embryonic antigen were positive in the mesonephric component but negative in the transitional cell carcinoma. history of haematuria. At the age of 20 he had contracted tuberculosis with involvement of the genitourinary tract, requiring a left nephrectomy and removal of the right epididymis. He had been in chronic renal failure for the previous eight years, requiring daily peritoneal dialysis in the latter two years. At cystoscopy a large, solid tumour was found arising on the posterior wall of the left side of the bladder and extending on to the anterior wall. A limited transurethral resection was performed. Post‐operatively, there were no local complications and he was referred for radiotherapy.
