Abstract

A conceptual design study involves the search for an optimum power system arrangement by means of a rationalized procedure to develop approximately three conceptual system design alternatives from which a final design is selected for implementation. The purpose, scope, and procedure of conceptual design studies are discussed. A procedure for conducting a conceptual design study and identifying its characteristics is included. In the absence of applicable literature, or training courses for interested engineers, this structured information should also be useful in judging the quality of a conceptual design study. A sample conceptual design is presented.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
