This paper presents a simple low cost passive ultra-wide band pulse generator circuit using minimum discrete components. The design eliminates the requirement of an external DC biasing source to snap a step recovery diode when a single supply driving source is used. It is easy to construct and capable of generating sub-nanosecond higher order derivative of Gaussian Pulses triggered by a rising edge for a single supply driving. The rise and fall time of the source can be within 2ns to 30ns, which is easily obtained from many digital devices. Simulations conducted using Advanced Design Systems (ADS) and in-house fabrication of the actual circuit show that it is capable of meeting the spectrum mask set by Federal Communications Commission of US (FCC).
