Construction and Comparison of Statistical Models

Abstract

Summary A general method of constructing mathematical models for probability distributions other than the normal, closely related to that of Nelder and Wedderburn (1972), is briefly outlined. A likelihood procedure for comparing statistical models based on different distributions is described and numerical examples, using models based on the exponential family, given to illustrate the techniques.
