The absorption coefficient of GaAs has been measured by calorimetry as a function of wavelength in the 9–11-μ band and as a function of temperature. The samples measured were the best available material grown by several laboratories and by several techniques. The results suggest that infrared loss near 10 μ in these samples is dominated by an intrinsic absorption mechanism.
