The magnetic susceptibility of liquid selenium in equilibrium with the vapour has been measured up to 1235°C by the Faraday method, using samples in sealed quartz capsules mechanically supported by a refractory metal cell. Using data from different filling factors, the temperature dependence for the liquid phase was obtained along the liquid–gas coexistence curve. The paramagnetic contribution to the liquid susceptibility was found to have an activation energy of 0.66 eV over most of the semi-conducting transport regime.
