Transient based protection for power transmission systems

Abstract

This paper introduces new developments in fault transient based power system protection techniques. A brief review of history of relay development, which outlines the background of the new developments is first given in the paper. The concept of 'transient based protection' is then presented and the advantages of which over conventional techniques are highlighted through the introduction to a number of new transient based protection techniques under development.
