Neutral and ionic reaction mechanisms for the allylation of aldehydes by bipyridine N,N′-dioxides

Abstract

Experimental as well as theoretical calculations provide evidence that the allylation of aldehydes catalyzed by bipyridine N,N'-dioxides proceeds via two different reaction mechanisms depending on the solvent used.
