Abstract

In
\nthis paper I draw on evidence from familiar criteria
\nfor diagnosing markedness values to argue that
\nmarkedness is best determined on a language specific
\nbasis. I will further conclude that markedness
\nconsiderations do not provide compelling evidence
\nfor constructing theories of phonological grammar.
