Abstract

Ultrasound appears to provide a way to produce local hyperthermia even in a deep-lying tumour in tissues where bones or gas do not prevent the penetration of the beam. In this study the temperature distributions produced with focussed or plane and overlapping ultrasonic fields have been measured in pigs' muscle in vivo. The microcomputer based measurement system and some of the factors producing measurement errors will be introduced.
