A single cage inserted in an instrumented PLIF gains approximate biomechanical stability, slight greater subsidence, and a slight increase in screw stress but less early degeneration in adjacent disc. Adjusting these factors, instrumented PLIF with one cage could be encouraged in clinical practice.
