This article outlines and illustrates a rapid scoring procedure for determining whether a set of six (or fewer) attitude questions form a scale. While the procedure is set up for scoring with I.B.M. equipment, it is possible to adapt it for hand scoring. Part I presents the background of the scale problem for those who may be unfamiliar with it. Parts II and III describe the machine procedures.
