Effect of sludge funneling in gravity thickeners

Abstract

Abstract The performances of cylindrical and conical thickeners are compared by means of calculations, using published data on the properties of a suspension. Experimental data on the operation of cylindrical thickeners indicate that sludge funneling at the bottom of such thickeners has a large effect and is a possible cause of observed discrepancies between theory and experiment.
