Linkage of 15 tetragonal VO5 pyramids gives rise to the spherical anion [V15O36]5⊖ 1, which is formally a VV system. The 15 vanadium atoms are arranged on the surface of a sphere and are 343 ± 10 pm from the center, which is occupied by a Cl⊖ ion. The isopolyvanadate is part of the salt [NMe4]6[V15O36]·Cl·4H2O, which is formed upon gentle heating of a solution of Me4NCl and [NH4]3 [VS4] in water.
