Abstract

Abstract This article considers gain‐scheduling control of variable‐speed wind energy conversion systems (WECS) in the context of linear parameter‐varying (LPV) systems. The typical problems of the classic gain‐scheduling techniques, such as stability guarantees, undesirable transient responses in the controller commutations and arduous design procedures, can be avoided with this new formulation. A model of a variable‐speed WECS expressed in LPV form and an optimal LPV gain‐scheduling control strategy are presented. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
