TRMM and Lightning Observations of a Low-Pressure System over the Eastern Mediterranean

Abstract

^ ignificant cyclone activity occurs in the Mediter-\ ranean area, mainly during the cold season. As J most of these cyclones form over the sea, spaceborne platforms are especially useful for observing these systems. Moreover, during the cold season, lightning usually occurs over the relatively warm surface waters, and thus lightning detection data can also help us study the evolution of convective systems.
