reclassified as negatives, then the assay proved to be 100 per cent sensitive and 93 75 per cent specific. This preliminary investigation demonstrates that rapid detection of canine CRP is feasible and such measurements should have a useful role in canine medicine. However, fur- ther validation using a larger sample population is required before the value of such measurements is known.Further studies are also required to confirm whether the use of this assay could enhance the early detection of clinical disease.Overinterpretation of serum containing low CRP concentra- tions (less than 10 mg/litre) should be avoided.
