Abstract

The classification of isolated singularities of minimal varieties leads to the study of minimal manifolds in the <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> n n </inline-formula> -sphere. The object of this paper is to show that a minimal <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> 2 2 </inline-formula> -sphere in <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> S 4 {S^4} </inline-formula> with trivial normal bundle is the standard <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> 2 2 </inline-formula> -sphere.
