Abstract

Thermodynamical properties are investigated for the current carrying metastable states of a model of Josephson junction with a normal metal barrier. The one-particle density of states and the thermodynamic potential are derived, including the effects of multiple particle-hole reflection of the electrons inside the barrier. The canonical relation between the phase coupling energy and the barrier supercurrent is confirmed, and expressed in a general form in terms of the phase dependent density of states.
