For pt.II see ibid., vol.13, no.4, p.1355-62 (1998). This paper presents the establishment of the linearized Phillips-Heffron model of a power system installed with a unified power flow controller (UPFC). Two applications based on the Phillips-Heffron model are demonstrated: (1) study on the effect of UPFC DC voltage regulator on power system oscillation stability; and (2) selection of damping control signal for the design of UPFC damping controller.
