The Micturating Urethrogram in Female Children

Abstract

In female children, a correlation of urethrographic appearances with the distribution of static pressures in the urethra has shown that during micturition the most important factor controlling the rate of flow of urine is a pressure applied to the lumen of the urethra. The calibre of the urethra is of minor importance and only marked narrowing is likely to be functionally significant. The details of 12 cases have been given to illustrate these conclusions and to demonstrate how a wide variety of urethrographic appearances can be associated with a uniform distribution of static pressure in the urethra.
