Abstract

Without template, surfactant, applied field, or undercoating, well-defined and highly ordered rutile SnO2 nanorods were grown directly onto various substrates at low temperatures from aqueous solutions. These nanorods are elongated along the c axis and have stable prismatic (110) faces, which results in nanorods with a square cross section (see picture).
