Detonation nanodiamonds in oils and lubricants

Abstract

The paper presents the main findings of the investigation into the potential of using detonation nanodiamonds and diamond-containing soot (an intermediate product of the nanodiamond synthesis) as high-performance antifriction and wear-preventive additives to oil-based compounds. The application of these products is demonstrated to offer great benefits: the lifetime of tools and parts is extended 1.5–4.0 times and the ultimate load values for a friction pair are raised 4-fold.
