Organo‐boron compounds. 1. Preparation and properties of some aliphatic borates

Abstract

Abstract An apparatus is described for the azeotropic removal of water during the condensation of boric acid with aliphatic alcohols, and subsequent purification of the borate as a semi‐continuous process. The synthesis of allyl borate from boron acetate is also described. The densities, viscosities and refractive indices of the borates are given and the variations of the boiling points in the homologous series discussed.
