This assessment report details the results of the 2002 \nAMAP assessment of Radioactivity in the Arctic. It builds \nupon the previous AMAP radioactivity assessment that \nwas presented in ‘AMAP Assessment Report: Arctic Pollution \nIssues’* that was published in 1998. \nThe Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme \n(AMAP) is a group working under the Arctic Council. \nThe Arctic Council Ministers have requested AMAP to: \n• produce integrated assessment reports on the status \nand trends of the conditions of the Arctic ecosystems; \n• identify possible causes for the changing conditions; \n• detect emerging problems, their possible causes, and \nthe potential risk to Arctic ecosystems including indigenous \npeoples and other Arctic residents; and to \n• recommend actions required to reduce risks to Arctic \necosystems.
