A large proportion of infertile cows are clinically normal repeat breeders. These animals show no clinical deviations of the genital tract, and the cause of the repeat breeding is often unknown or of a more or less hypothetic character. Mild chronic endometritis has long been regarded as one of the commonest causes. This has led to the conventional intrauterine treatment of repeat breeders with antiseptic solutions. In recent years attention has been directed to non-infectious disturbances in the sexual functions. The possibility of conclusive diagnosis is, however, small with the diagnostic aids of to day. Progress in the diagnostic field is thus a prerequisite for improved diagnosis of bovine infertility. In this connection it seems desirable to elucidate the possibilities of endometrial biopsy.
