TLDR

The method uses the oxygen flask technique followed by liquid scintillation counting to determine 3H, 14C, and 35S in any material, employing a single absorption solution for 14C and 35S and eliminating the need for an internal standard due to constant counting efficiency under standard conditions. The improved apparatus and simplified sample preparation allow rapid analyses with accuracy and reproducibility comparable to other methods. Safety measures are indicated.

Abstract

A detailed description is given of the determination of 3 H, 14 C and 35 S in any material by the oxygen flask method followed by liquid scintillation counting. Improved apparatus and simplified sample preparation enable the analyses to be carried out quickly. For all determinations of 14 C and 35 S only one absorption solution is used. The use of an internal standard is no longer necessary, as the counting efficiency for all samples of the same isotope is constant under standard conditions. The accuracy and reproducibility are at least as good as those for other analysis methods. Safety measures are indicated.
