This paper deals with a cross saturation model for interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) in starter-generator applications. After having shown the importance of the phenomenon of cross saturation for the constraining applications of the IPMSM, the authors propose a model based on the use of an off-line calculation by the finite element method whose results are integrated in dynamic simulation. A relatively reduced number (25) of off line FE simulations leads to a good precision in the taking into account of the dynamic phenomenon of cross saturation. The dynamic model suggested is then validated in steady operation and transient state within the framework of a starter-generator applications.
