Numerical simulations are presented for both circular and rectangular supersonic jets. The predictions are based on solutions of the nonlinear disturbance equations. The simulations are implemented on parallel computers. Details of the numerical method including the discretization, boundary treatment, grid generation and turbulence model are given. Predictions are made of both the flow perturbations and the radiated noise. The radiated noise is predicted using both a direct simulation and a Kirchhoff method. Good agreement is obtained between the two techniques. Comparisons are made with experimental measurements. The simulations overpredict the sound pressure levels by 4 to 5 dB. This is a consistent overprediction for all the operating conditions considered: but, the relative changes are predicted well.
