Abstract A pH‐scale has been defined for absolute methanol as solvent and the ionic product of methanol was evaluated (20°, μ = 1.0, N(CH 3 ) 4 Cl or LiC1). The formation of methoxide complexes has been studied by titration of methanolic solutions of BCl 3 , AlCl 3 , GaCl 3 , InCl 3 , PCl 3 , TiCl 4 , ZrCl 4 , ThCl 4 , GeCl 4 , ZnCl 2 , TaCl 5 , NbCl 5 , NbOCl 3 , WOCl 4 with lithiummethylate.
