The background internal friction of Al, Cu, and Mg at 300°K was investigated as a function of plastic deformation, gamma-ray and neutron irradiation, and frequency (1 cps–40 kc/sec). The results suggest that the Granato-Lücke vibrating-string model does not adequately describe the results at low frequencies.
