A technique is described for growing barley and wheat plants in nutrient culture under completely sterile conditions. The apparatus required is simple and cheap and therefore allows relatively large numbers of plants to be produced. Germination and subsequent growth of plants are little affected by the method of seed sterilization employed and a high degree of sterility is obtained.
