Measurements have been performed to determine propagation levels and electromagnetic pollution in an industrial plant. MicroChamp, software developed first at Swiss Telecom PTT and currently in the authors' laboratory for the study of the propagation of electromagnetic fields in an urban environment (wireless phone applications) was adapted to study electromagnetic fields in an industrial environment. The propagation behaviour was found to be similar, and after adjustment, the prediction accuracy is of the order of 5-10 dB. Various models of the plant were tested in order to derive recommendations for potential users. Other tests show that MicroChamp can predict the direction of arrival of the main rays within a 10/spl deg/ error.
