Abstract

Catalytic adsorptive stripping voltammetry (CAdSV) combining adsorptive preconcentration of the electroactive species with the catalytic reaction provides a significant enhancement of the voltammetric response, and consequently a considerable decrease of the detection limit, as well as the improvement of the selectivity of the determination. This article presents principles, potentialities and limitation of the CAdSV method. Depending on the mechanism and nature of the catalytic reaction applied in CAdSV, the authors distinguish six basic types of the catalytic systems. The features and advantages of the above kinds of the catalytic systems are discussed. Basing on the authors' investigations and the literature review, numerous examples of the CAdSV systems, which have found wide application in ultratraces analysis, are presented. The future trends and development of the method are evaluated.
