Abstract

People pay little attention to the interaction between low-energy ions and matter compared to that of high-energy ions. It is even more unusual to find studies of the interaction of low-energy ions and complicated organisms. The discovery of bioeffects induced by ion implantation has, however, opened a new branch in the field of ion beam applications in the life sciences. This paper reports recent advances in research on the role of low-energy ions in genetic modification.
