▪ Abstract Drag reduction in wall-bounded flows can be achieved by transverse motions imposed by passive means, e.g., riblets, or by external forcing, such as wall oscillation or transverse traveling-wave excitation. In this article, we review possible physical mechanisms responsible for turbulent drag reduction and corresponding near-wall flow modification.
