Abstract

SUMMARY The crystalline composition of collections of upper urinary tract stones from Glasgow, Scotland, the U.S.A. and the Sudan has been determined by X‐ray diffraction as part of a world survey of urinary stone composition. The Scottish collection is similar to others from Great Britain in the amounts of oxalate and phosphate present. The American collection resembles those from India and Turkey. They all contain a large amount of calcium oxalate. The Sudanese stones are more like the lower urinary tract calculi found in Great Britain today.
