Wrapper fibres (WFs) and their formation mechanisms, as well as their effects on the pro perties of open-end rotor spun yarns, have been investigated. For this purpose, different yarn samples (100% PES) were produced under different operating conditions. The tight belts on the surface of the selected yarn samples were counted, and the mean number of wrapper fibres per unit length was evaluated. The effect of rotor diameter and rotor speed on the occurrence of tight belts has been examined systematically.
