Abstract A simple and scalable method to coat 1–2 micrometer sulfur particles with silica is presented. The fabricated shell has a unique morphology that resembles a raspberry. Lithium–sulfur batteries with reasonably high areal loading using this nanocomposite show very stable performance, with little capacity fading over hundreds of cycles.
