Nano-metal detectors! A rapid colorimetric response and detection limit in the nanomolar concentration range is achieved by a colorimetric sensor for metal ions. The sensor is made of gold nanoparticles functionalized with a simple peptide ligand (PFNs). The interaction of the PFNs with metal ions results in a distinct colorimetric response that is driven by nanoparticles aggregation (see figure).
