σ and π Donation in an Unsupported Uranium–Gallium Bond

Abstract

A charitable donation: The gallium center contributes to both π donation and σ donation in a uranium–gallium bond (see picture for results from calculations). The gallium center is isolobal to CO and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and indicates that NHC π-donor behavior might be more widespread than previously recognized. The uranium–gallium bond may be regarded as a model for the as yet unreported UIVCO−. unit.
