Raman amplification for loss compensation in dispersioncompensating fibre modules

Abstract

Raman gain is demonstrated to offset the loss of dispersion-compensating fibre modules without system performance penalties. The small mode-field diameter results in very modest required pump powers available from semiconductor laser diodes.
